MISSION & GOALS

A unique and interesting aspect of this specialty practice area is the nuance and complexity of benefits and compensation, and the way it is practiced within and outside the U.S.  For example, there is a distinction in the U.S. between the practice of a “benefits” attorney and an “employment” attorney. And, in many jurisdictions outside the U.S., most benefits are offered through the employment relationship.

The vision of the ELA’s Benefits and Compensation specialty practice group is to provide a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and client development that is inclusive of both the sophisticated benefits practitioners as well as those practitioners with little to no benefits experience, but who would like to learn more and share more about this interesting and constantly evolving area of the law.  The group's structure and goals include:

  • Two co-chairs currently

  • Frequency of the meetings - approx. once per quarter

  • Form of the meetings – generally, online; occasional face-to-face events

  • Marketing activity – podcasts, webinars, vlogs

  • Sharing and learning about the nuances of benefits and employment law across regions.  Create a global network for support and communication through meetings and emails.

We invite and encourage any ELA member practicing in this area or interested in Benefits and Compensation to join this group!
